Volunteer for ElderPet

Therapy Animal Program

Most people join ElderPet to volunteer with their pet animal assisted activities and therapy though Pet Partners. Information on the therapy animal program can be found at a separate link - Therapy Animal Program. If this interests you, but you don't have a pet or just want to help out, please volunteer for serving as part of the crowd at our evaluations in Durham. Our schedule can be found here. Please contact Marsha Barden if you are interested in helping out.

Community Outreach

Our Community Outreach (Service) branch needs volunteers to deliver pet food, help provide short term care for pets usually in their own homes, and transport animals to pet-related services.  This is a very rewarding volunteer experience, but, most requests come in sporadically and often urgently (except for pet food delivery) , so this requires volunteers with a very flexible schedule and dependable transportation. ElderPet does provide liability insurance for this type of work.

Pet food delivery occurs every 4-6 weeks to accommodate varying volunteer schedules.  We currently deliver to Dover, Durham, Rochester, Somersworth, and Newmarket. As our client base increases, we will need more delivery volunteers.  Food is either donated or purchased monthly and must be individually bagged and taken the clients at thir homes.  ElderPet is aware that some humane societies and food pantries provide pet food and will refer to these organizations when appropriate.

Other types of volunteers needed are people who might be interested in some of the administrative and background work (i.e. Pet Food purchase and packaging, website assistance, data collection, monitoring accounts, helping with mailings, organizing  other volunteers, and more. )
